“So has the Lord done for me at a time when he has seen fit to take away my disgrace”

The Gospel according to Luke 1:5-25

Lectio: What does the text say?

Then Zechariah said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.”
“So has the Lord done for me at a time when he has seen fit to take my disgrace before others.”

Meditatio: What is God saying to you through the text?

In this part of the text that we have to reflect upon, at first, we see the characteristics of a miracle, that is to say, adverse circumstances, the work of God. And Elizabeth clearly says the second: “seen fit to take away my disgrace.” Many times, we are like Zechariah in that we follow and listen to God, but we don’t believe. How can we remain coherent with what we know about God and the miracles that he can do in our lives? Is there hope? Do I allow God to act even though sometimes things do not turn out the way I want it to? Do I trust that God does things for our good and to free us? Do I believe that God has done miracles in my life and has freed me? Can I share my testimony?
After the message of this text, what is your meditation, your personal reflection?
Oratio: What do I say to God?
Lord, it is not enough to know you, to profoundly know your Word, your message, if I do not truly allow you to fill me with hope, trust, and faith in you. Help me to allow you to truly enter into my heart, into my being, in my feelings, in every part of me and to feel the freedom of your presence acting in every moment, filling me with joy and miracles.

Actio: What do I promise God?

Give thanks to God for those miracles, for those occasions that he has freed us in life and that it may be a moment of trust and faith in the Lord, to leave everything in his hands that we wish and that he helps us to find solutions.
Share with someone what the Lord has done in your life and be a witness of his miracles and the freedom that he has given you.
