The second anniversary of the World Youth Day 2016 takes place at Campus Misericordiae, 28-29 of July 2018. For the second time the city of Kraków and the area where World Youth Days takes place celebrate the anniversary of the biggest meeting of young people in Polish history.
Celebration began with the Eucharist, celebrated on July 28 in the parish church of Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Strumiany, near Campus Misericordiae. From there, participants, holding plates with the names of their towns, went on a solemn pilgrimage to the Campus Misericordiae in Brzegi, where the final events in 2016 were hold.
After reaching the place, the pilgrims went through the Gate of Mercy, the same as was here in 2016. Young people, participating in the ceremony, met cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, retired archbishop of Krakow, who held the office in 2016. Archbishop Dziwisz reminded, that experiencing this anniversary cannot only be a remembrance of the event which but celebrating the anniversary must bring fruit in hearts of participants, society and the whole Church.
Archbishop Dziwisz stressed, that the words of the Holy Father, said on the Campus Misericordiae two years ago, were still valid and he indicated that God needs the faithful hands to continue to build the modern world. - Let us ask ourselves today, what did these words bring in our Polish life? Can we divert attention from what divides us into values that are close to all of us? Have we learned from young people how to build bridges, and not to build walls? Cardinal Dziwisz taught.
Addressing the youth, he assessed that the Church and society in Poland needed her enthusiasm, joy and faith in the possibility of building a better, more friendly world. During homily Cardinal Dziwisz mention John Paul II, one of the patrons of World Youth Days 2016. - We felt his presence especially during these extraordinary days. We deeply believe that the youth of the world and Polish youth are still taking care of it. In his hand, we give the fruit of a work that is still a living reality in many young hearts, said Cardinal Dziwisz.
After the words of the Cardinal, the following people performed for the residents of nearby towns and visitors in an exceptional concert. The day was crowned with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The celebration of the anniversary of WYD ended at 7 pm with different bands, performing for the audience on the outdoor stage.
