Over nine thousand young people from all the provinces of Panama accompanied by delegations of Costa Rica and Nicaragua, among others, started to warm-up for WYD 2019, attending the National Youth Renewal Meeting (NYRM), held on 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th March, at the grounds of The International Fair of Azuero, Province of Los Santos, Panama City.
This meeting of young people began in 1979, at the Church of Llano Bonito in Chitre as an initiative of Father Segundo Familiar Cano, mobilizing thousands of young people who are in search of a space for reflection and deep spiritual experience with Christ, every year for a period of 4 days.
Today, Saturday, 27th, the day began with the recitation of the Rosary of the unborn; followed by animations, praises and preachings by Yuan Fuei Liao and Ester Hernández, who shared testimonies with the young people on their personal encounter with Jesus, the life transformation that has led them to spread the Good News, evangelizing through experiences and Christian musical works.
Following the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, Father Alexandre Awi Mello, Secretary General of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life, emphasized Mary’s devotion: “Young people, follow Mary’s example and have COURAGE to surrender your heart, body and soul to God’s will. “
Father Alexandre noted that God had called them to a great mission and added that God’s choice to each one works on their boldness as young people. Finally, the priest invited the young people “to be the arms” and “the heart” of God, to welcome all the young people of the world for WYD 2019.
On the other hand, José Domingo Ulloa, the Archbishop of Panama, introduced Authorities of the Dicastery in Rome such as: Father Alexandre Awi Mello, Secretary General of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life; Father João Chagas, Head of the Youth Office of the Dicastery and Marcello Bedeschi, President of Saint John Paul II Foundation for Young People. In addition to presenting the WYD’s Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and its various committees, Yerisel Buddy, a 19-year-old girl who is part of the Youth Group “Eje Colón” at the Santuario Diocesano Parish, Nuestra Señora del Carmen in the Province of Colón, expressed with joy, “this meeting has been my preparation, a prelude with many prayers for WYD 2019, I follow the example of my sister, who participated in WYD 2016 in Krakow and I saw her hard work, she prepared herself by praying and with great willingness to be able to have that wonderful encounter with Christ. “
