“They did to him whatever they pleased”

The Gospel according to Matthew 17:10-13.

Lectio: What does the text say?

I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased.
After reading this text, what are the words, phrases, or actions that draw your attention, your interest?

Meditatio: What is God saying to you through this text?

As Jesus said, Elijah represented order, the correct, the right thing, what should be, but nobody paid attention or recognized it. Often this happens to us in life. Everyone knows what is right, how we should act and what we should do, but many times, we ignore it and do what is convenient for us. Am I conscious of how I should act and what I should do according to what the Lord has told us? Do I continue ignoring it or do I act according to this order or according to what is convenient for me? What do I do when I realize when I am not acting in accord with what I should do and be? What attitude do I have or take when someone doesn’t act or do as they should, and even further, does it to my detriment?
After the message of this text, what is your meditation, your personal reflection?

Oratio: What do I say to God?

Lord, please forgive me for the many times that I have acted according to my convenience and comfort and not to what is just and reasonable. Help me to be more aware of these habits and to have the will to correct them and act like you. It’s difficult, but I promise to continue little by little correcting myself. With your help I can do it.
After the message of this text, what is your personal prayer.
Include your personal intentions.
Amen
